Teijin Limited, a technology-driven global group, has bagged a Life Nanotechnology award at the nano tech 2016 International Nanotechnology Exhibition and Conference, held at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan, from January 27 to 29, 2016.

The award recognises the high potential of Teijin's technologies and their wide-ranging applications. Teijin presented NANOFRONT ultra-fine polyester fibre made with the company's proprietary island-in-sea composite-spinning technology, which is already used in healthcare for facemasks and skincare products. The technology for creating continuous yarn of carbon nanotubes developed by Teijin Aramid B.V. (Arnhem, The Netherlands) was also displayed, according to a press release.

The nano tech awards, including the Life Nanotechnology Award, commend innovative, pioneering nanotechnologies. Awardees are selected based on inspections of each exhibitor's booth by members of the nano tech executive committee and judges. In addition to recognising companies, organisations, and universities that are contributing to the nanotechnology industry, the awards help to further these technologies by clarifying technical potential and market needs.

Looking ahead, Teijin will continue to propose new solutions through its development of nano-fibres and other nanotechnologies.

Nano tech, which is in its 15th year and now the world's biggest international exhibition of its kind, exhibits nanotechnologies and related topics, including materials and knowhow for fabrication, evaluation and measurement. Results from the latest nanotech research are also presented at the conference. (GK)
