Toray Industries, Inc., is set to increase the production of TORAYPEF polyolefin foam manufactured at Toray Plastics (America), Inc. The total amount of investment is approximately 4 billion yen to add a manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons at TPA Virginia Plant, US. The facility is expected to start operations by 2018.

The expansion of the production facility will boost TPA's TORAYPEF production to 7,500 tons a year. TORAYPEF is a polyolefin foam developed using Toray's proprietary manufacturing method, and is adopted for various purposes including automobile interior, insulation of consumer electronics, cushion materials for housing and civil engineering because of its characteristics of light weight, thermal insulation, shock-absorption, mouldability, and non-water absorption.

As the automobile market expands, North American automobile manufacturers have been increasingly adopting TORAYPEF as a soft interior material for parts such as door trim, as they use more luxury interior materials to differentiate its models.

Toray is implementing the production capacity enhancement to cater to the growth in demand for automobile interior applications in North America. Toray, in bolstering the production capacity at TPA in advance, aims to achieve further business expansion and fulfil its responsibility to supply to the market. The decision to increase the production capacity of TORAYPEF is part of the Asia, America, and Emerging Country Business Expansion (AE-II) Project, which is promoted under Toray's medium-term management program, Project AP-G2016, to capitalise on the growth of Asia, US, and emerging countries in other regions, where significant economic expansion is expected.
