Alexium bags major order for FR finish from bedding maker

Alexium International announced that it has received the first full large scale production order from its major US bedding customer for Alexium Fire Retardant (FR) finish.

“This follows on from the previous trial purchase orders showing the rapid development from initiation of trial work to full large scale purchase orders in just four months,” Alexium stated in a press release.

The 3,000 pound or around 1.5 tons purchase order will be used in the commercial full-scale run for mattress ticking.

“It is the final component of a mattress that is used to encase everything in the mattress while protecting the internal materials and maintaining the overall shape,” it said.

CEO Nicholas Clark said, “As our major US bedding customer moves into full production, Alexium is taking another key step in positioning ourselves as a critical supplier to the FR needs of the bedding industry.”

Alexium International holds proprietary patent applications for a process developed initially by the US Department of Defense.

This process allows for the surface modification and attachment of nano-particles or multiple chemical functional groups to surfaces or substrates to provide functions such as fire retardancy, water proofing, oil proofing, and anti-microbial treatments.

Applications under development include but are not limited to textiles, paints, and packaging, glass and building materials.

Alexium's fire retardant chemical treatment are currently marketed for different fabric markets under the Alexiflam, Ascalon, Nycolon, Nuvalon, Polytron, Omnitron and Bactron trademarks. (AR)
