The European advanced textile materials clusters involved in the TEXTILE2020 project held a meeting on the 30th and 31st of January 2013 in Lyon (France).

Hosted by Techtera, the nine partners worked together on their internationalization strategy, using the results of the TACTICS Handbook on the internationalization of clusters to define the TEXTILE2020 international strategy.

Indeed, a key element of the project is to allow the TEXTILE2020 partners to speak with a common voice on the world market: a first step was done with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between mfc pôle, in Tunisia, and the TEXTILE2020 cluster.

In order to build a long-term strategy, this second workshop allowed the partners to further exchange and discuss, following the first meeting organized in Lille in October 2012.

This workshop, led by Mr. Bill Greenhalgh (Manchester Metropolitan University) built on the results of the first meeting during which the partners had highlighted 5 key priorities:

-Attractiveness, communication strategy
-Contacts, networks, open innovation, collaboration
-Sustainability, positive cash flow
- Human resources
-Opportunities, new markets

This time, all the partners were asked to explain their areas of specialization, using the Boston matrix. These presentations led to a brainstorming session to define the main strengths of the TEXTILE2020 partners.

As a result, several sectors were identified as key strengths of the Textile2020 cluster – such as Mobiltech (automation and transport), Hometech (home and public places) and Meditech (medical, hygiene and sanitary) – though it was clearly mentioned that the advanced textile sector being very dynamic, the situation was evolving very quickly.

The workshop proved to be very useful. During the mission to Brazil foreseen from April 15th to 18th, the partners will have the occasion to test their new international strategy.
