Huesker, Germany's leading manufacturer of geosynthetics, agricultural, and industrial textiles, is set to launch SoilTain Protect geotextile system for the international mining community.

The patent-pending geosynthetic ballast mattress is constructed of interwoven geotextile tubes to form homogenous panels. These durable mattresses can, in most instances, be filled with site soils or wastes, thereby offering a beneficial reuse option for site materials and reducing the need for special fill.

SoilTain Protect is an innovative geotextile containment system manufactured utilising state-of-the-art weaving technology, which provides a tubular system interconnected into a singular geosynthetic mattress configuration. SoilTain Protect must be utilised wherever it is required to avoid solar and UV exposure on geomembranes, according to a press release.

This Huesker solution reduces construction time, construction and operational risk, construction and operational cost and contributes to the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of containment operations.

SoilTain Protect helps eliminate heavy construction equipment on top of primary geomembranes and greatest threat to liner integrity, enhances site safety significantly through reduction of construction traffic, increases storage space due to utilisation of waste (for example tailings, coal ash) inside the protection tubes, and protects environmental investment safely and efficiently.
