Technical textiles producers in Europe have opportunities available for growth and their innovative ability will play a major role in driving their future growth, this came out of a panel session on the 'Global Markets – Challenge and Opportunity for European Technical Textiles'.

The discussion was organized ahead of the European Apparel and Textile Organization (Euratex) Annual General Assembly.

Mr. Alberto Paccanelli, Euratex President, said the textile and clothing sector in the 27 EU countries posted a turnover of €179 billion last year, although countries across the world have been struggling due to the EU financial crisis. This shows an increasing confidence in EU textile and apparel sector, he added.

Mr. Hendrik Van Delden, from textile consultants Gherzi, spoke at the session on the main opportunities and threats for the EU technical textiles industry. He narrated the growth of technical textiles worldwide and in Europe.

He said China is increasing its technical textile fabric production manifold and at a quick pace, which is going to have its affect on global markets in future.

According to Mr. Van Delden, a couple of high-growth technologies will drive future developments in technical textiles.

He said, weight saving will become a significant topic across all industries and reinforcements of composites with textile surfaces offer new opportunities for technical textile manufacturers in Europe.

Europe has complete technical textile value chain and its innovative ability will play a major role in driving its future growth, he added.

Mr. Olaf Schmidt of Messe Frankfurt said European technical textile firms are well placed to meet the future demand.
