Invista launches solar-activated fibre

Invista has launched Thermolite Infrared which is solar-activated by the sun or artificial light sources using unique Near Infrared (NIR) yarns.

The yarns absorb the NIR rays to raise the temperature of the garment and the hollow fibre technology provides insulation and minimises heat loss to help optimise performance, even in freezing temperatures.

“NIR performance is permanent and lasts the expected lifespan of the garment,” a Invista press release revealed.

According to Invista, in addition to its warming properties, Thermolite Infrared technology is also engineered to dry garments faster than conventional technologies.

“Reduced drying time means precious body heat can be focused on keeping the wearer warm instead of on drying the garment, which provides the wearer with longer protection from extreme cold,” it added.

“We have developed a robust innovation pipeline to reinvigorate the Thermolite brand, and we are excited that Thermolite Infrared is our first release,” said Huw Williams, global segment leader for activewear and outdoor.

“It offers consumers a compelling new benefit, while meeting our rigorous standards for quality, dependability, and performance,” he too added.

Thermolite Infrared technology is being launched to support the outdoor market first, specifically insulation for jackets, gloves, caps and sleeping bags.

Invista will be announcing additional Thermolite Infrared technology applications in other end uses later in 2016.
