A single-handed Olympic class Laser dinghy, which raced at the Rio 2016 Olympics, is all set to enthrall visitors at JEC World 2017, an international composites event in Paris. The dinghy is part of the display being put up by Scott Bader. The event covers the whole composites value chain from raw material to processors and final products.

Scott Bader, a global chemical company based in the UK, plans to launch a new 'zero styrene' gelcoat at JEC. The latest gelcoat technology has already been specified by a leading global wind turbine blade producer and it provides FRP moulders interested in low shop floor emissions, an even better alternative to the company's existing gelcoat range.

Laser dinghies have an FRP composite hull and deck, designed and manufactured by LaserPerformance, the world's largest composites manufacturer of small sailboats, using high performance, marine approved resins, gelcoats, core bonding and structural adhesive materials from Scott Bader.

Scott Bader will also exhibit its material solutions for composite parts under 'making a positive difference' corporate banner, with new look marketing branding for the complete adhesives range. These material solutions include high performance polyester, vinyl ester and acrylic thermoset resins with compatible glass, carbon and aramid fibre reinforcements, bonding pastes, and Crestomer and Crestabond structural adhesives for bonding metals, plastic and composite substrates.

There would be a lookout for like-minded players in the composites market to co-develop more sustainable composite products and processes for the future, a company release said.

In addition, the company has organised open forum presentations on topics such as resin and gelcoat systems in the rail, building and construction markets, and sustainable development in the composites industry. (SV)
