Kimberly-Clark has announced that it is awarding college scholarships worth $1.1 million to 55 children of K-C employees across 13 states and Canada, on the eve of celebrating 23 years of its Bright Futures programme.

Bright Futures scholarship grants are worth up to $20,000, or $5,000 per school year, for full-time students attending accredited colleges and universities. Since its inception, the programme has awarded more than $37 million in scholarships to more than 1900 students.

Recipients for the award were chosen based on academic achievement, leadership, work experience and involvement in extracurricular activities, according to a company release.

Tom Falk, chairman and CEO of Kimberly-Clark said, “Our selection committee was again very impressed with the graduating high school seniors who applied for this scholarship. We are proud to offer a program like Bright Futures to allow the children of our employees to follow their dreams and pursue an education that will last a lifetime. Bright Futures is a worthy and valuable investment in our future generation of leaders.”

The average GPA for this year’s scholarship class is 3.94, and awardees will attend such top colleges and universities as Harvard, New York University, University of Southern California and Georgia Institute of Technology, the company said. (GK)
