Technical textile companies from Germany are keen to enter into partnership with Gujarat-based firms for manufacturing of medical textiles, agro textiles, protective textiles, automotive textiles and sports textiles.

A delegation of four German technical textile firms – Nextrusion GmbH, Ploucquet GmbH, Eurotextiles GmbH & Co. KG and SR Webatex GmbH – visited Ahmedabad last week to explore possibilities for collaborating with textile industries in the western Indian state for technology sharing and mutual growth.

The visit of the German firms was organized by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), in partnership with WB Management Consultant.

The visit was commissioned by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), along with AHP International GmbH & Co. KG.

Gujarat is the biggest cotton producing state in India, and accounts for 25 percent of decentralized powerloom sector, as well as 30 percent of woven fabric sector in the country.

Currently, Gujarat accounts for around Rs. 200 billion of the Rs. 750 billion Indian technical textiles industry, according to ASSOCHAM.

The Indian technical textile sector is projected to soon grow to Rs. 1,000 billion industry, owing to vast growth in automotive and other sectors, in which technical textiles are used.
