Triumph + Outlast: riding without losing concentration

Triumph launches ultimate riding gear with climate regulating Outlast technology. “We don't just make motorcycles, we ride them too. We're proud of the bikes we build, the materials we use and the people who turn our dreams into reality.”

This epos of the house Triumph does not apply for bikes only, but also for the clothing collection. Here Triumph presents for Autumn/Winter 2012 “ultimate riding gear” using the climate regulating Outlast technology for the first time.

Not too hot, not too cold, just right – adventurers wearing Triumph riding gear can now take advantage of Outlast phase change materials (PCM) in their jacket, gloves and socks and experience better comfort whatever the weather.

“We decided to use Outlast Adaptive Comfort products as this is the latest in fabric performance technology and to aid the regulation of the body temperature whilst riding,” explains Leiah Lamplough, Clothing Development and Buyer at Triumph Motorcycles Limited, Hinckley/United Kingdom.

“If the body temperature gets too cold or too hot whilst riding means that the rider can lose concentration so it is essential that the rider maintains a comfortable constant temperature.”

Outlast technology provides these essential benefits.

Little known fact: Triumph designs its own motorcycle clothing. “We don't badge other people's stuff with Triumph logos – we couldn't sleep at night. Only by controlling the design and spec ourselves – just like we do with the bikes – can we be sure to get the performance that modern motorcycle clothing must have.” Leiah Lamplough continues: “It is important that our products provide good value for money and use the latest functional technologies. Although the look and design of the product is important the function of the product is equally essential to enhance the rider experience. We are excited about using Outlast phase change materials as it is a great product”.

Triumph listens to their customers: “We got interesting feedback from a rider from Triumph who travelled from the United Kingdom to Austria and back in June 2012 wearing and testing the new jacket with the heat management Outlast technology,” explains Leiah Lamplough.

“I can say that on a 2282 mile intense tour around some of the nicest roads in Europe where biblical rain and 30°C temperatures were encountered the Triumph trousers and jacket equipped with Outlast liner performed perfectly, says test rider Joseph Brooks from Warwickshire. “Great protection combined with fantastic body heat regulation, a winning combination of space age technology style and practicality”.

And he adds: “In bike gear tests you normally see long term tests which can give you a good idea of the durability of clothing. To be honest though not many people these days make bike gear that is going to fall apart. What people need to know is if the kit is going to be good for specific use. Is it going to be comfortable? Is it going to leak? Am I going to be sweating my nuts off one minutes and freezing the next once I get up to reasonable speeds? I have tested the Triumph gear in changing conditions and I must say that it kept me dry and gave superb regulation of temperature and great comfort.”
