Of late, technical textiles have assumed an important place in the arena of textiles in general. Consumption of technical textiles is expected to increase many fold in the developed and developing countries. The scheme of growth and development of technical textiles has-been designed to promote indigenous manufacture of technical textiles to cater to the needs of domestic as well as global demand.

Data base survey of technical textile industry, setting up of Centres of Excellence and creation of awareness among entrepreneurs and users are the three components of the scheme of growth. Eight Centers of Excellences (CsOE) have already been established in the field of Sportech, Agritech, Geotech, Meditech, Protech, lndutech, Composites and Non-Wovens. COE concept is mainly to provide infrastructure at one place for the convenience of manufacturers and users of such value added textiles.

COE facilities include laboratories, Display and Resource Centre, HRD along with other infrastructure likeprocess line for product development, manpower and incubation centre. Wool Research Association (WM) has recently been designated by the Government of lndia as 'Centre of Excellence in Sportech'. Broadly, Sportech items are classified in three categories viz.

Sportswears, Sports Goods and Sports Accessories. Sportech products have assumed added significance due to factors like increased activities and participation in sports in the country, outdoor leisure pursuits, popularity of traditional sports like athletics, soccer, cricket, golf, badminton, tennis, sailing, etc., newer sports requiring high dexterity, skill and sporting gears, new interest of the youth for outdoor activities and leisure and so on. Today domination and superiority of a nation is not determined on the battlefield but on the play-ground.

Various stakeholders in sports field like distributors, retailers, importers, exporters, manufacturers, sports federations, sportsmen, etc., will participate in the exhibition. Technical and general papers authored by academicians, business personnel, users, manufactures, etc will be the attraction of the Seminar
