Sensors manufactured by Berkeley, California-based smart fabric sensor technology company Bebop Sensors comprehend force, location, size, weight, bend, twist and presence across any size, resolution and geometry, according to founder and chief executive officer Keith McMillan, who feels India is a natural market for many of its applications.
The data this comprehended is conveyed to semiconductor processors that use algorithms to parse the data provided. The sensors then send back valuable and useful information to the user that can be life changing, McMillan said.
Application of such sensors are in numerous fields including industrial gloves, virtual reality accessories, steering wheels and car seats in automotive applications, musical instruments, helmets, sports gear, hospital beds and wheelchairs, he told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
“We expect electronic musical instruments to be widely adapted in India as our customers develop instruments like the mridangam, tabla, etc. We also expect our sensors to be someday used in cricket bats, hockey and soccer gear,” he added. (DS)
